Evidence: Family-school collaboration is associated with better educational outcomes for children with disabilities (Turnbull & Turnbull, 2015), though association is not cause. In Spain, LOMLOE (2020) requires the administrations to ensure parents’ participation in decisions about the schooling of students with specific educational support needs (art. 71.4); in the US, the IDEA (2004) reflects a similar principle. Burke & Goldman (2018) deal with special education advocacy by families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds; no study shows that preparing the meeting with this guide improves outcomes.
