What we have done and what is missing.

inklui is about removing barriers, so it is only fair to list its own. Here is what has been checked, with what result, and what is still not right.

What is done

It reads in both themes
Every colour has a pair for the light and the dark theme. Contrast was measured on the rendered page, not in the source: normal text is above 4.5:1 and non-text elements —field borders, checkboxes, icons on their background— above 3:1.
The whole site works with a keyboard
You can tab through everything, focus is always visible, and the first thing you reach is a link that jumps straight to the content instead of walking through the menu on every page.
Nothing moves on its own
There are no decorative animations, no notifications sliding in, nothing pulsing. Some of the people who use inklui are hypersensitive, and movement nobody asked for is a barrier. The little that does move —the rotating quotes on the home page— has a button to stop it.
You can hit it with a finger
Everything clickable is at least 44 by 44 pixels, above the 24 the standard asks for. That matters here in particular: some of the people using these tools have motor difficulties.
Text can be enlarged
There is a text size control in the menu, and the site also holds up to 200 % browser zoom without losing anything or producing sideways scrolling.
Pictograms do not get in the way of a screen reader
ARASAAC pictograms are marked as decorative and the meaning is carried by the text beside them. That is deliberate: the word attached to a pictogram is not always the word in the sentence, and reading it aloud confused more than it helped.
It works offline
Installed on a phone or tablet, inklui opens without wifi any page already visited, pictograms included. A classroom with no signal is the norm, not the exception.

What is not

The PDFs you download are images
Printable sheets are drawn and saved as an image, so a screen reader cannot read them and the text cannot be selected or copied. Fine to print and laminate; not fine to read on screen with a reader. This is next on the list.
Not all of the site is in Basque
The Basque on inklui is written and checked by one person, one sentence at a time, and nothing is published until it has been checked. That is why some parts still show Spanish with a note, rather than a machine translation nobody has read.
The legal pages are in Spanish only
The legal notice and the privacy policy are deliberately kept in Spanish: three versions of a legal document are three documents to keep identical, and the day one falls behind it stays published anyway.
There is no external audit
Everything above was measured by us. It has been checked, but nobody external has signed it off, so this page does not claim conformance: it states what was checked and how.

If something does not work for you

Write to info@inklui.com saying which page it was and what you were using (keyboard, screen reader, phone, zoom). With that it can be reproduced; without it, rarely.
